Hair Loss Awareness Month is in motion, and each year, we aim to illuminate a topic that many experience but few openly discuss. In this special series, we’re highlighting our Education Ambassadors, each of whom has faced hair loss in their unique way. Join us as we explore their struggles, triumphs, and the invaluable lessons learned along the way.

First, we met Katy, who’s deeply passionate about helping other women find their confidence through alternative hair. Now, let’s meet Kristyna, who reminds us that although the road can be bumpy, you’re a lot stronger than you might think.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself…

I am a wife to my wonderful husband, Bruce, and mom to two beautiful kiddos, Jackson and Blakely. I work full time as a Development Manager for a Commercial Real Estate firm here in Huntsville, Alabama, although I was born and raised in Northern California (go Giants and 49ers!). A few things that bring me to my happy place are gardening, hiking and kayaking with my family! Being outdoors is where I find my peace.

2. How long have you been wearing wigs or hairpieces?

I’ve been wearing alternative hair since 2015 and moved into wigs in 2020.

3. When you started your hair loss journey, what do you wish you knew?

I wish I knew that synthetics were a great, more affordable option (and have come a long way since your Grandma’s day!). When I first moved into wigs, I was so concerned that people were going to know I was wearing wigs that I felt like I had to have expensive, human hair pieces. The financial pressure and burden of trying to keep up with that was overwhelming, but I am SO grateful that I finally gave synthetics a chance! Now I wear synthetics about 98% of the time and save my expensive human hair pieces for special occasions!

4. What’s one thing you’ve learned about yourself throughout your hair loss journey?

That I’m a lot stronger than I give myself credit for. Hair loss is SO hard as a woman, and when you are in the beginning throws of it all, it can feel very hopeless and overwhelming. Wigs gave me the space to grieve my hair loss in my own time and way, and eventually I came to accept and embrace it.

5. What advice would you give to a new alternative hair wearer?

This journey can be bumpy in the beginning, and it may take time to find your footing – but you will find your footing. I’m a huge believer in confidence being contagious, so connecting with women online who are also suffering from hair loss and living their best alternative hair life – it was crucial in bringing me to where I am today!

6. Which Jon Renau style is your favorite?

This is tough, but I would probably have to say Skylar! I just adore the fun waves and above the shoulder style!
